It's a wrap!

Default STi Wheel Bearing Clearance

I just upgraded from the press in style bearings to 05-07 STi hub assemblies. I ordered new assemblies and noticed radial play in the bearing.

Is there a tolerance on these bearings for radial clearance? Not the best setup - but I measured with a feeler gauge approx .008 inches of total deflection.

I took a video - note the bearing was at about 40 degrees F here and the measurement was done at room temp.

The only thing I can think of that would have damaged the bearing is wheel stud install. I was very cautious to gently tap out the old studs by putting the bearing in a jig of wooden blocks under the hub face so less force would be transitioned to the bearing itself. I didn't notice if there was play before I did that but when the old studs were out and before the new ones went in I became nervous studying the play. Anyone have a new bearing they can refer to, or have a similar experience? Bearing spins smooth as silk and sounds fine.
