Hammering sounds so cruel, I prefer 'encouraged' . The idea was by fixing the hub while encouraging the stud to come out, it would reduce any moment on the bearing itself.

Yes its the OEM bearing from an 07 STi. Is that a NTN bearing? I might be able to dig up some clearance charts from them.

I agree I'd like to try and torque them down and verify - I'm going to need some more parts first.
