I think
technically in your scenario, the new WRX would be a lowered crosstrek, as the crosstrek came first, but it's a sedan instead of a hatch... the crosstrek itself being a raised impreza hatch though...
In reality the new WRX is a modified SGP Impreza (with suspension, brake, powertrain, etc. modifications) and "unique" plastic cladding, and a "unique" front and rear end treatment.
Alternate option: a Levorg S4, but uglier and a sedan, because it's for the USDM.
