Its all about balance and proper manufacturing.

Perfectly balanced pulleys are all the same. Some weigh more, others less, and distance of mass away from center can vary by brand and design. But if it breaks or is misbalanced problems can arise. Similar to paying some serious cash to have your motor internals fully balanced. Ferrari doesn't even make fully balanced crankshafts or camshafts everytime. Quality control takes out "bad" pieces. Ebay companies do not typically have QC on the same level.

Just think of what can actually happen if something spinning as low as 3k rpm breaks and busts a belt and the pulley breaks apart. Do you really think there will not be any collateral damage? Imagine Nolan Ryan on crack with a sledgehammer in your house. How does it break in the first place? Bad casting materials, imperfect mold, bad hardening process, poor design, lots of heat and stress from something like an engine, spinning to 7250rpm or more, poor weatherproofing which leads to premature rust and degradation, etc....

That being said, I will eventually get lightened pulleys too
