Made some progress on the trunk mount battery last night. Since the GR hatch doesn't have any flat surfaces in the rear I had to get creative. I used 10 GA hot rolled steel in a 36"x14" size to go from frame rail to frame rail, drilled and inserted rivnuts into each frame rail and fastened it all down with 10.9 M8x1.25 bolts. I also drilled for one M10 bolt straight down into the spare tire hold down threads but I need to get a 2" spacer to make it work. Battery tie down bolts will go through the bottom of the marine grade box and through the sheet of metal. Unsure of whether I want to center the box or put it off to the passenger side for better weight distribution.

Ignore the extra holes in the sheet metal. I started out by drilling 4 evenly spaced holes on each side before I realized the locations of those holes wouldn't work.
