Heck, since you're the only person I've been able to find that has done this sort of thing--do you mind writing up a document that encompasses everything. With the dollar at $0.835 and rising, there will probably be significant interest in the subject.

I import into mostly Vancouver & funny enough Hamilton. THey both have excellent distribution & transport network extending from both cities. Plus both have enough federal inspection facilities that I never have to wait very long for one to get comleteted before I can ship via train.

The MDX may posess an interesting loophole. You can technically purchase your car from a dealer in the US as a special order. Once it comes off the assemble line, the Honda dealer network may allow you to take delivery from a Canadian Honda/Acura dealer. It would still be a US bound vehicle so you would still have to convert it to CDN standards (speedo in kms, CDN front rebar, & whatever esle is different). I've even heard som some ppl taking delivery of thier US bound vehicles right off the delivery trailer outside the plant, though it was not a Honda product. Now b/c the car had never left CDN soil, you would "technically" NOT have to pay the import duty. Now I don't knwo for certain that you can avoid the duty b/c it is a US sale or inspite the fact that is is a US sale. The information available online is difficult to distinguish exactly when they DO apply duty.

With the dollar rising there will very soon be a push made by CDN dealerships to have to feds pass legislation heavily restricting the import of NEW US vehicles in to Canada. There is such a restriction in AB for trucks. A friend of mine bought a truck a couple of years ago, an MDX, in fact. He had to sign a document saying that he would not sell the truck to a US citizen or company that would then export the truck to the US. At the time the CDN dollar was taking a beating & dealers were selling cheap so the savings we are getting now were being had by US buyers.

The information for importing a car to Canada are available on the site federal site mentioned earlier in this thread. If you follow the links, you can find out just about all the information AND forms you will need to import a car from the US.
