Carartist,

I saw your other thread when you first got your STi. You sure found a very fine specimen, congrats on that.

Seeing as how you're coming from a totally different kind of performance cars, there's bound to be some confusion, hopefully you're getting to understand this community a little better.

Yes, a lot of the "modding" and "tuning" that we do to our cars involves messing with the electronics. In a nutshell, there are two schools of thought on this:

1. buy an accessport and use the Off The Shelf (OTS) maps or some custom-created maps by a local tuner.
2. go directly to a local tuner and get an Open Source tune.

We don't need this thread to become a debate on which is better, I'm not even going to touch that one. You can find many threads on that, with people on both sides, defending their opinions quite heatedly.

If you're going to be changing the way your engine breathes in or out, you definitely want to change the way the computer controls the engine. Whether you go with AP or Open Source or something else is up to you. Searching this forum for other people's opinions and experiences is a good start. A lot of these topics are covered over and over again, both in this regional forum and in the technical ones (yes it's good to venture out of the NWIC every once in a while!)

A thread such as this one is good too, but you have to be careful. If you'd started your first post with some background on yourself (and skip the "ricer" comments, we're not "ricers", hondas are "ricers" ) it would've made things a little easier to understand.

In time you'll find that this is a very good community, but you have to put in a bit of time, get to know the lay of the land, see if your question has been asked (and answered) before, etc.

and avoid that 12sechatch guy. he's a jerk.

just kidding. he's awesome.

good luck, and again, welcome to the community.
