My wife's MB is similar; oil change every 10k miles or 1 year, whichever comes first. The computer counts down based not just on mileage but on how many times the car is started.

What did it say before they did the service? They shouldn't have reset it without actually doing the oil change. IMO at this point you should just have it done to be on the safe side. Oh and never buy a used car without complete service records.
