The race in 2011 had over 300,000 people attending. It's a boon for the hotel, travel, and restaurant industries. If $32-39M comes from publicity and strengthening Melbourne as a brand, how much does the city bring in taxes related to the event?

Maybe they should institute a tourism tax, similar to what Montreal does, by tacking on an extra 15% to hotel bills. That would bring in a ton of money over a week, even if it wouldn't pay for a whole grand prix.
