3rd gear isn't the only weak gear! 2nd and 3rd are both a very common gear to take out of the 5 speed. If you take 2nd out, you have a much larger issue because you'll need a new shaft. If you want a strong 5 speed, you should replace 1-4. Or just risk to continually take it out and spend $1,000 to 1,800 to rebuild it every time.
