I don't see the Arteon as a "downgrade" for Audi customers, but rather a "cheaper upgrade" for customers coming from more pedestrian brands. Some middle-aged guy who wants to step up from his Accord, but can't quite jump into an A5...

I mean, VW already makes it. They didn't design it for the US market. They're just bringing it here, and are fully aware that it's not going to sell like hotcakes because of previous sales. Again, I think it's pretty cool that VW brings over lower volume cars instead of trying to create uniformity in their lineup. I'd still like to see the R Variant make it over here though...
