I agree it's only 3 MPG for the Impreza. However in the link that BigFatHorse posted, it states that the CR numbers for highway normally beats EPA (for non hybrid vehicles). It happens though that 3mpg was the amount Hyundai had to decrease their estimates. As a penalty they pay between $50-$100 a year per car sold for those people that actually participate. This will only amount to a fraction of their profits for that year.
By placing the Impreza at 36MPG instead of 33MPG, Subaru sold many more Imprezas.
The point is that Subaru has joined the ranks of Hyundai and others, Fraudulently putting an MPG number that the vehicle simply cannot attain, to boost corporate profits. Subaru wins, consumer looses.
If we can't trust the EPA numbers, then what good are they. For most cars, the EPA values can be attained.
