2004 WRX Wagon
WRBlue, of course

Max was dead.

My 2004 WRX wagon - bought off of the showroom floor on my 29th birthday - sounded like metal spoons in a washing machine when I tried to start him. I've had 6 Subarus, and this is the first one to leave me like this. That was in 2011 with only 106,000 miles on him.

He is named Max after the little dog in How The Grinch Stole Christmas that tried to pull that overloaded sleigh up the mountain all by himself... My Max had a stock engine that was trying its best to do way too much. I knew this, but I asked him anyway... go beyond daily driver duty and be my husband's and my autocross car...please.

Max earned both a Season Class Champion and Runner-Up titles in the Washington DC Region (WDCR) SCCA's Solo events that year. Max had come with a 1 year new-member voucher to the SCCA when I purchased him; now I'm the one of Solo Program's Co-Chairs of one of the largest programs in the country and former Regional Executive of the oldest Region in the SCCA.

Max was my daily driver... carting my two young children since they were newborns to and fro, and me... to work, to the grocery store, to WDCR's Board meetings, with the crystal, the one my friend since first grade gave me for my Sweet 16, hanging from my rear view mirror.

When Max's engine broke, I was heart broken. Devastated.

It was recommended to me that I sell him as-is. Instead, he sat in my garage for an agonizing year and a half until I could scrape the dollars together to resurrect him. And this year, that became a reality. Here are his new specs:

- JDM EJ207 engine swap (2.0L JDM STi longblock version 8 ) wired for AVCS
- Godspeed catless downpipe with a CEL-fix built in
- EJ207 version 8 stock downpipe
- Greddy EVO 2 catback exhaust
- Exedy Stage 1 clutch
- Lightweight flywheel
- Walboro 255 fuel pump
- STi intercooler splitter
- Version 7 JDM ECU
- Tactrix-based tune

- Perrin front endlinks
- Cobb hollow 24mm front sway bar
- Hotchkis 25mm rear sway bar
- Koni Single Adjustable yellows
- Ground Control camber plates
- Ground Control coilover kit
- Front springs: 7" long 2.5" diameter, 500 spring rate
- Rear springs: 7" long, 2.5" diameter, 450 spring rate

- Volks CE28 5x100 golds
- Race tires: 245/40/17 Dunlop Direzas

- Steel braided brake lines
- Hawk Performance brake pads

- HID headlights (conversion)
- Yellow tinted fog lights
- Rear rubber tailgate bumper guard

- G-Force meter (my Sweet 16 crystal)
- 2 Britax convertible car seats (including the Cow-Moo-Flage pattern)
- All-weather child-resistant floor mats

- Cargo tray

That said, I think you'll agree with me that Max is no longer...underpowered.
