Word on the street is they run like crap with 87.

They're a fairly robust engine, although according to the FSM you shouldn't machine the heads (.004" scrape is limit, iirc). I know they'll work ok after having more than twice that taken off, but the timing cover bolt holes may need to be enlarged to get them to line up.

The 108 timing cover bolts are a PITA, the allen heads are soft and tend to strip.
