It can happen, it was one of the troubleshooting things I went through to find out why my #4 was misfiring, bought new spark plugs and gasket all ready to do the job but under inspection there was no oil on my plugs so since i'd already gotten all of the supplies I replaced both valve cover gaskets anyways, including the gaskets that go around the spark plugs themselves. Chances are one of the gaskets around your plugs is letting oil onto the plug. The job can be done yourself with patience, some of the bolts are hard to get to depending on what side you'll be working on..
