If by some chance you have electronics in the car like audio or whatever (aftermarket), ensuring that everything is routing as it should be might make a bit of a difference...just in case.

Other than that, look into a new gauge but my thought is that you're having the issue from electrical draw more than a gauge.

Gear 4 - 5 = 11.3 -4

Is danger i think.
