I have the AutoXray unit and it works very well on the WRX and other OBDII Subarus. Mine was a few years old and the older software did not initially work on my car but I was able to send it back to them for a free upgrade (free except for a nominal shipping fee). A new one purchased now will have the current software and will work fine.
Unlike the PC-interface units the AutoXray is plug-and-play and will read out stored codes with a plain-english description. It will also clear codes and can provide real-time sensor and status readouts.
It's not cheap but definitely worth having if you have any interest in diagnosing your car and avoiding shop visits and an absolute must if you are doing any mods.
