NOTE: No need for this thread to turn into a discussion of the situation of the current US Automakers....plenty of those thread already. This is about a locally run car dealership commercial.
CN's: Local car dealership runs radio commercial questioning import owners patriotism.
EDIT: GOT IT RECORDED! 281KB *.WAV file
Now I think we can all agree that usually local car dealer radio commercials are among the most irritating and overplayed ones in any local market. Generally we just tune them out. But this weekend I've heard a new one from the local Ford dealer I can't believe the owner (OC Welch) had the stupidity to run.
Basically it ridicules the government for asking the automakers to present their recovery plans before providing any financial assistance.
Then it directly accuses import buyers of being un-American and questions their patriotism. I'm astonished at the ignorance.
Two direct quotes from the commercial:
All you import buyers don't come crying to me when you can't make your Toyota payment because you lost your job.
And the last line of the commercial.....
When are you import buyers gonna wake up and do something for the United States of America?
After owning nothing but imports (and being delighted with every one of them!) for the last 20 years, we just bought our first domestic vehicle ever about 18 months ago with high hopes. It's already had two serious recalls. I've got a list of six things (all quality related) that need to be fixed.
I didn't really need another reason not to buy another domestic vehicle, but hearing this commercial has just guaranteed I'll *never* purchase one from any of those dealerships.
