It's a good measure of technical development and efficiency, but my point was that there's a lot more to it than that. In the case of the GM LS engines, the ~7L Z06 version might have lousy specific output compared to a lot of OHC engines, but it's ~500 bhp packed into traditional small-block dimensions--a pretty impressive achievement.
