Exclamation Just a reminder...

Always check your oil level EVERY time you make a long trip in your Subaru or any car, regardless of how reliable you think it is. I just drive home to Pittsburgh from New Jersey yesterday, and upon pulling into my driveway, I noticed a horrible ticking sound coming from the engine. It was so loud it could be heard from inside the car!

This morning I checked my oil and the dipstick was nearly dry. I was shocked since my car has always been excellent as far as oil consumption. I've never before had to add a drop of oil between oil changes. Because the engine never consumed oil before, it never crossed my mind that I should check the oil before driving the car on a 330 mile trip. It appears that my car developed a sudden oil leak within the past 2 weeks. It turns out I had to add 2.5 quarts of oil this morning. Luckily, after adding oil the valve rapping stopped, and it appears that no damage was done. However, I might not have been so fortunate and it could have done some very expensive damage to the engine.
