Just back from the dealer, they use the Subaru 0W20 and that weight is what is called for on the oil filler cap. The recommended interval is 7,500 miles...so the full synthetic seems well in order. That's enough for a year of driving for me. I may continue to have the dealer change the oil and filter (and free car wash) and skip the tire rotation until every other time. That cuts the cost back to abut $70 rather than $90 (tax included). Given the small 2 liter engine has almost 5 quarts of capacity, it may have enough cooling to manage highway driving in the summer with the W20 weight upper spec. Then given the car will have about 15,000 miles when the next change comes up, a full synthetic 5W30 may be worth a try. The engine will have those miles with the lighter oil during its "break in".
