Also - do you agree that the reason why RPM, timing, etc. aren't really affected is because those are "event-based" meaning when the cam/crank sensors pulse the ECU does something, like trigger a spark and send a signal to the tach? Versus time/clockcycle-based like I explained above?

I guess another way of saying it is that the ECU uses the clockline mostly for its' own calculations, and for doing checks of variables to make sure they're within a certain range. It does not make combustion occur any differently, because most of it is mechanical, save for spark, and even that's a simple delayed trigger mechanism based off the hall effect sensors for the crankshaft and camshaft. The ECU just adjusts the timing slightly but it's still triggered by electromechanical means...

I guess that's why I wasn't too afraid to try this. That, or I'm just plain stupid!
