Default 98 2.5RS died trying to figure out if motors worth fixing or replacing

My 2.5Rs
102k hard miles. Its always eaten oil / run rich. I used to drag race it, its had nitorus in it.. its back to stock and has just been driven for the past 6 months or so. Its started going through more oil than usual and to be honest ive had so much crap going on lately with switching jobs and so on it was neglected and ran low enough that the oil light came on. The other day I was driving own the highway and the car started to lose power, had a hard time keeping up with traffic and then a hard time staying at 60mph going up hill. Crested the hill, car picked up some speed and then the motor died. There was no smoke that I saw. I coasted to a stop, it wouldnt fire but it would crank, then 25 minutes later while waiting for a tow truck it cranked and fired but made some god aweful squaling sounds that didnt sound belt related. Towed it home and started playing with it today.

Im really just trying to figure out how bad the problem could be, if its worth actually pulling this motor apart and trying to repair the issue, or if its easier to just try to find a used replacement. Money will be the determining factor...

Heres what I know so far:

Oils out of the car, there are specks of metal and some small (but big enough) pieces/shavings of copper/bronze metal which I assume is bearings that I can pull out of hte pan with my finger. The fuel filter needs to be replaced, the plugs are absolutely nasty from the car running rich, and my K&N isnt the cleanest either. Battery is fine, coil is putting out spark, fuel pump is priming.

What its doing:

Car will crank and crank but it wont fire. We checked for spark and it was fine off the coil. We tried to get it running on starting fluid and it wouldnt fire.

I want to pull the oil pan to see how much metals in it but it looks like you have to pull the cross member to get all the bolts? Any suggestions on what to do next? Or what I might want to look at first? I was going to put new plugs and a new fuel filter in it and see if it will turn over. The metal shavings is obviously a problem that needs to be attended to but to me the car not firing is another problem all together unless somethings cracked and its not building compression.

So any suggestions, also any suggestions on where to find a motor that will fit this car? i dont care about power production I just want to be able to stop riding my motorcycle an hour to work and an hour back in the rain lol.

Thanks in advance for anything you can tell me.
