Be glad you didn't buy the Lancer. Mitsubishi is pulling out of North America, right? I wouldn't want to own a Mitsubishi now anymore than I'd want to own a Saturn now.
I will admit that the AWD had much more to do with selling the vehicle to me than the stylistic elements.

As for the Lancer - yes, I had heard rumblings to that effect. There are two dealerships in my area, both of them are in suburbs of Vancouver. One dealership didn't even want to do my business... probably a morale issue in their dealership due to the rumours. The other dealership got as far as working on pricing - but then their high-pressure sales tactics and mindgames turned me off of them. I also heard of some unethical conduct in relation to the vehicle I was about to buy (it wouldn't have been brand new), so I terminated that conversation before pen was put to paper.

All told, I'm ok with the vehicle I have, as my butt dyno is telling me that it has the same type of feel as I had with my Integra, even though the mechanisms (AWD, CVT) are different. The styling is not entirely unique (and in some ways, quite "meh"). If I had to do it over again, I might have been tempted to wait the 6 months to get a BRZ. (Or maybe not. I tend to avoid cars that are in their first model year. )
