Post Introductions and observations...

Hi fellow Subie fans! Just wanted to introduce myself as a newbie here and express my excitement for the upcoming WRX. First a bit about me and my cars:

My first mod bug hit when I had my 1989 Nissan Maxima (not the box one). I am proud to say that I was a ******* even before the word '*******' was around! This was back in 1995 when the import racing scene was just getting started. Over the course of the 4 years I owned this car I had put on an intake, muffler (complete with monster 4.5" tip), and ECU before I realized that I wasn't going all that fast. I decided to up the stakes and slap on a nitrous oxide kit which made a huge difference. This was back when I was a drag racer, the best time I made was a very traction limited 15.5 @ 96mph (damn FWD). That was satisfying for a while but I was ready for more...

In the summer of 1999 I bought my current 1991 300ZX twinturbo. About this time I discovered autocross and competed in the Houston region SCCA events at the end of 1999 and entire 2000 season. During that time I was steadily modifying my Z for power and handling and am still doing that today. Right now my car is undergoing a turbo/injector/intercooler upgrade as well as several other tweeks that should pump out a healthy amount of power but it will never really be a car to toss around. It's way to heavy which is where the WRX comes in...

I've always loved the agressive looks of the WRX but had always been disappointed that the US did not get it. When the 2.5 RS was released I seriously debated between my Z and getting an RS but turbo power won out in the end. Now that the new WRX is here I will be heading to my dealer once my Z is paid off (hopefully by next summer). For now I wanted to pay a visit here and express my thoughts on the car.

The new look of the Impreza is growing on me every time I see it. I still favor the last generation more but I can say that I no longer feel the front end looks like a Neon. Of course if the STi lights could have been incorporated it would have looked much better. From what I've been reading, this car is going to kick some serious butt both in the marketplace and at the track (the kind where you turn).

The impressions I got of this BBS while I was lurking are very positive! It is refreshing to see a place where talk of racing doesn't automatically refer to the drag strip. You guys really DRIVE your cars and I salute you for it. I've seen several RS's at the local autocrosses here and they've really great. I've even seen a couple of road courses that I've been to not to mention, of course, the rallycrosses. Unforuntately, I've only been to 1 but it was a blast. A buddy and I rented a Mercury Cougar from Hertz last April and really tore it up. It was a blast and I'm anxious to do it again but the last time we rented a car my friend bent the control arm and I wasn't able to drive. Maybe some of the Houston guys are here. The only name I know is Trey cuz his dad owns a 300ZX, too! I've met a few others like the Green RS w/ the gold tint. Anyway, sorry for rambling but I hope to join your ranks soon!
