Iíve said this before, as someone who went from a Corolla S+ to a GTI, there is no way a 30 hp bump is going to transform that Corolla into anywhere near a GTI for the $$$. Spending extra to make it handle better could be spent toward a far superior performing bone stock GTI. Want to go waaay faster in a GTI? It will cost peanuts. A necessary set of tires would actually cost more.

We are nearing 3 years on the GTI and besides a couple minor things and odd confusing messages, itís been a solid performing commuter. No turbo noises or failures so far. No exploded hubs. No failed electrics or fires. The apple interface has performed flawlessly, which is actually better than the Corolla that had a similar setup. While the Corolla got better average mileage than the GTI, Iím not sure this hatch will. It may split the difference, but weíre talking 2 or 3 mpg better. The loud pedal beckons in the GTI and could account for the 28 mpg combined. Which considering the amount of tire roasting it does, it should be way worse.

So unless having a warm Toyota hatch is the most important thing, just like the iM I skipped, Iím also skipping almost but not quite this thing. Besides, Toyota is launching that Lexus UX cute ute with hybrid AWD. Iíd wait and see if that trickles down to the Corolla hatch.
