There's a reason why even automatics kick down before accelerating. The only gear you should be in doing a single gear pull is 4th (for 6-speed manuals) and only when you have sufficient revs (~2,5K-3K rpm).
He was street racing, hence breaking the law... he was above 4k RPM. He should definitely mention it in his description before the "high load low rpm" circlejerk starts.
