Except they break after removing them X amount of times, lol. I've got through 2 so far. This is with be VERY careful during removal and even applying some light grease on the rubber grommets.

It definitely does. I would never remove it without providing another solution for air ducting.

^ This. Air follows the path of least resistance. So if you've removed your ducting, air will mostly go around the restriction (TMIC).

I really didn't want to leak this as it has too many other things in the image, but you can see there are lots of easy free options with the factory piece...
