No Tesla can even come close to an M5 in the 1/4. 0-40 MPH is the only place the Tesla has a chance. I know because I live in the most highly concentrated Tesla area in the world, and have an M5. Even my X5 is faster than the Tesla from a roll.

Ok, Tesla Model S can't outrun your M5 or your X5. You still have to stop at the gas station, don't you?
I can tell you that, given its length/girth/weight, the Model S is deceptively quick. I know a lot of people in the Bay Area are rolling in X5 and there are a fair number of M5 on our roads as well, but that's not everyone. To everyone else, the Model S is significantly quicker than your average Bay Area commuter car.
