The GTI and Mustang are not even remotely in the same class. The mustang is a yawner for the money, and the most popular one is the V6 model. The TSX is essentially an expensive Accord (Euro R-ish). The A3 is so far overpriced for what you get, it didn't stand a chance. How much do you want to pay for your Jetta wagon with quattro (which I cant remeber if it is torsen or haldex). The RX8 is great, but there are reliability issues and build quality issues, and the masses are not ready to embrace the nuances of a rotary engine. Though I wouldn't ever buy one, the GTI belongs there. I am surprised that the Saturn Aura didn't make it. Maybe next year.

When CD chose the Mustang last year, they only included the GT model.
And CD's review of the Aura wasn't all that great...& unless its changed quite a bit for next year (which it won't be), it won't be eligible. Cars have to be new for the corresponding model year or prior year's winners to be in the competition.
