And here's where things went downhill...
I was driving home one day and the car stalls and won't start up again. Head gasket blown and ringlands cracked. Lasted 125k miles! I had decided to go the forged piston route so I didn't have to worry about this happening again for a longggg time. I had the motor built by WRX USA.

Then, on top of not having a car, disaster struck again. The night the motor got pulled out, the Southern California Thomas Fire started and reached my house in almost an hour at around midnight. This picture was taken of the street above my house. The car sat about 25 yards to the left down a hill. We had to evacuate in a matter of minutes. The car had no engine or brakes, so moving it wasn't an option. I wasn't sure if I would come back to my car still standing or being burnt to a crisp.

Fast forward about two weeks later, this is what I came home to:

SO relieved.

About three weeks after the motor was pulled the fire was finally contained enough where we could safely work on the car. The new forged EJ257 longblock came in:
