As for the 89 octane I honestly have no clue, every car ive seen is either regular (87) or premium (91), however I have heard the same idea that the higher octane will clean out your engine/tank and mainly because it will burn a little bit cleaner/hotter. Anyone else have some feedback on this?

89 is fine to run I personally run 93 and I get an extra 80mi a tank.
From what I have heard theres two tanks at a gas station. One holding 87 and 91 or 93 depending on the station and there is a ratio of 87 mixed with 91 to make 89. As for the "additives" that the gas stations claim to put in, a truck driver told me its up to the tanker driver to pour the additive in the gas tanks when they are filling them up. Some drivers don't add the additives.
