Well I did exactly this. I ran a line from the block to the alternator, instead of the passenger side tower. Then jumpered from the passenger side of the intake manifold to the passenger tower. Volts gauge is now sitting at a rock-solid 14.5 volts.

Anybody who hasn't done this mod, for the money, it's the real deal. The major thing is finding where the bad grounds are on your car. I've changed things around and always showed higher volts than without, but doing directly to the alternator made the biggest single difference. Even if you just go from the negative post to the alternator I'm positive you'll see results. But it was a fun mod. I love working on cars and this was an excuse to do some work on this one. And it's an ongoing project, I keep lifting the hood and seeing another way to improve it, somewhere else that could use a more solid ground.
