I agree they certainly have great grip at those temps with a little warmup, just that the RE-11's are good to go colder.

The 070 is about the stiffest sidewall you can get in a performance street tire, so anything else most likely will feel less crisp. The RE-11 has a softer sidewall than the RE01-R, but certainly isn't "soft". All have more grip than the 070. The XS' will handle heat better for sure, so for track use, that'd be my pick then. As far as size, you could certainly go with a 245/40/17 on the 8" BBS'. Keep in mind in doing so you will certainly give up some crispness by squeezing a bigger tire on the rim, but you'll have more grip.
