I would think the mpg would drop with lower octane just like the power drops.

Had it been paired with direct injection or start-stop like the JDM/ EDM models, it might be something to write home about. Instead they saw the sales numbers and took another dump under the hood for the USDM Forester until 2013.
It is an ENTIRELY new design. It is the third generation of Subaru's horizontally opposed engines. Don't believe there is much of anything that can be swapped with the older motor.

the '10-12 Legacy GT had it... it will hold up, this is FRAKKING RIDICULOUS.

And it would be the only vehicle in it's segment to actually offer a stick combined with AWD, good power, and options, even if it is Build-to-Order factory specification only, and not forced on dealer inventory lists.
There is a reason for this.....

The car has roof racks, but you have to negotiate with that dumb antenna anytime you want to load anything substantial.
Many reasons. One big one would be cost.

What I am curious about is does that wart replace the passenger side hood mounted mirror(that this clearly doesn't have)? And that would be why it's not on the USDM.
