Hi guys, I got a replacement fob for my 2006 Impreza. It has the same FCC ID as my current one, only there is an open trunk button and a panic button on the replacement. I have succeeded in programming the car for the new remote (using the excellent instructions in this thread). In fact I did it four times, I know this because after each time I'd try the new remote and it wouldn't work so I'd retry figuring I made a mistake somewhere. After the fourth time, my default remote was removed from the remote codes programmed in and it didn't work anymore. I was able to reprogram the car to accept that remote. So I am sure I am programming the remotes correctly.
This leads me to the conclusion that either
(1) The replacement fob I got off eBay for $12.50 with shipping is no good.
OR
(2) The replacement fob will not work with my car even though it has the same FCC ID, because there are extra buttons on the replacement remote that do not exist on my standard remote.
Does anyone know which is the case?
