Just an update....
Drove the Tribeca to PA in the snow and found it superior to the Outback in almost every way, BUT....those huge tires can add to breaking distances on snow, or at least that's the impression I had. Handling with the traction control is simply amazing. The jump from a "ordinary" AWD to the Tribeca is almost like the jump from FWD to an Outback.
Here's the video system we put in for 1500.00

For anyone considering the factory model...think about this: How will you scroll through menu's from the front seat for kids with no screen? Also: you can't see behind you very well with screen down. Also: Screen position is not ideal for one or two toddlers in child seats. Also: Try changing DVDs in that roof model for toddlers! For those reasons we got the Icon system through our dealer. 3 screens, 3 wireless headphones and game inputs. Player is under the seat and even the driver can change discs.

The Tribeca dropped the ball on the stock video system...and lack of Ipod inputs!

Beyond that the Tribeca is probably the top all-weather car to own at anywhere near the price. Averaging close to 25 MPG on the HWY!
