Donzo, you might also try "minimalist" type shoes if you're inclined or curious. When I was in school ages ago, I used to run track and get shin splints all of the time. In retrospect, it was partly the shoes, partly the training and partly me. (DY gave some good tips, I don't have any other than those aside from rest and not antagonizing the injury)

Generally, shin splints are from muscle training inbalances in your lower legs. Sometimes modern shoes protect us from more than they should and reinforce bad behavior.
