If the light is ON or flickers turn the car off ASAP! Personally, I'd get a cheapo mechanical gauge and install it at startup. If the pickup is cracked (and the oil isn't hot) it may or may not light the light, but your pressure could still be really low. A mechanical gauge is cheap and will give you a very accurate reading.

FYI, cracked pickups go back to the begining of the EJ engines in the early 90's. The oldest car I've personally seen a broken pickup in was a 1997 with over 200K on the clock.
