We all contributed to the thread derailing, but the lesson here is a valuable one for others to see.. "Pay to Play"
  • Owner buys a used STI that has problems and Subaru brands as a 'lemon'
  • Subaru replaces lemon with a brand new STI
  • Owner proceeds to modify his new & warrantied STI despite experiencing issues with his previous lemon
  • Owner has transmission issues with new STI after modifications
  • Subaru denies warranty claim as a result of the modifications (rightfully so, the powertrain was modified and is damaged)
I commend the owner for being honest about being modified and not attempting to commit warranty fraud.

Did your tune/modifications cause the transmission damage? Was it due to your driving habits or the car being abused? Maybe not.

But Subaru will gladly deny a warranty claim for any reason they can. This is common knowledge.. just look at the rod bearing settlement.
