Default rod bearing fail

quick synopsis, I messed up and it cost me an engine. I accidentally had the wrong map in my ECU from my AP. Stage 2 vs. Stage 2+ Got a CEL code for lean conditions after the car started surging at highway speeds. Changed it to the correct one after driving it like that for maybe 30 miles. But when I went to start it up after work it made a momentary rod knock sound for maybe 1 second then went away. On the drive home of 20 ish miles it progressively got worse and was most noticeable when I would lift off the gas. Haven't completely tore down the engine but I did go ahead and buy a replacement short block and all the recommended replacement parts ie oil pump and cooler etc.
About to break in the new one soon. Will see how it turns out. Definitely getting a pro tune after break in.
