If you purchase the supercharger from TRD/Toyota and install it yourself or by another shop, then TRD/Toyota would warranty only the supercharger for 12mo/12,000miles (excluding labor). The rest of the original car warranty would still be valid (bumper-to-bumper and powertrain) in either case given that the supercharger was properly installed and not modified.

So essentially by having the dealer installing it you get an extra warranty on the supercharger at the cost of dealer installed price. It's similar to how Subaru treats SPT parts.
correct! I just meant that if you put the supercharger on yourself, and later on something goes wrong with the engine that may or may not have anything to do with the supercharger, they will say the warranty is voided and you'll be buying yourself a new engine. The 12-year/12,000 mile warranty is for the supercharger parts only, it won't help you if your engine blows up. If you get the TRD SC and the dealer installs it, they will still perform any engine related warranty work that might come down the road (if your engine blows up). I think it's worth keeping the warranty on a brand new engine that could still have some undiscovered issues.
