Default Stock tires and snow?

Hi, folks. Newbie here. Getting my ducks in a row to order my first Subaru, a 2007 B9 Tribeca. My question:

How do the stock tires perform in the snow?

I live at 8000 ft in the mountains of Northern New Mexico. The roads are well maintained in the winter, but I have a fairly steep driveway that, even freshly plowed, still has a few inches of snow on it all winter. It is slick enough that a 2WD vehicle cannot get up it most of the time once the snows start. Both of my current vehicles are 4WD and the AWD of the Subaru intrigues me. A lot of people up here have Foresters or Outbacks, so the Tribeca ought to fit right in. But how do the stock tires perform? Can they navigate a snowy drive like mine with any reasonable capability? Or will I have to replace them?

All thoughts much appreciated.
