i see a lot of folks up here in alaska doing fine on the stockers, you have some weight on your side with the tri. when i pdi them in the winter they grip like glue, as the tires are brand new. so i would say you'd be fine your first winter, but once a little (like 10k) wear sets in the snow grip diminshes quite a bit. we have the best luck with mastercrafts as far as price/value is concerned. and yes, studs or even studless tires will have insane grip on the tribeca in slick stuff.

if you've got the $$, don't screw around and just get nokians. edit: ok so i looked at their site and i guess they don't make a size for tri? i thought they did. would 255/60r18 fit?
