Thumbs up NGK copper spark plugs for DOHC EJ25

I'm using these on the DOHC EJ25 which normally wants ($$) NGK PFR5B-11's (double platinum). I've tried regular copper BKR5E-11 and Bosch Platinum +4 4418 / 4419 plugs in the past.

The BKR5EVKB-11 (IIRC) is normally a toyota plug seen mostly on their V6 trucks (Tacoma, et al.) but it's copper and has two large ground electrodes which come up the sides of the center cathode.

Performance is actually very similar to the 4419 Bosch Plat+4 with smoother idle than the stock plugs, but the NGK's pull a little cleaner under load compared to the 4419's which can be a bit weak under transient loads. The Plat 4's also tended to suck a lot of current down the #3 wire.

The bad thing is that these plugs are rarer than most NGK's and the price ($4-$6 each) is high for a copper plug. There's also a platinum version which costs 3x more...

Default Denso

Thanks for the info.

It is also possible to use Denso "U-groove" K16R-U11 plugs. I double checked with Denso USA. These are listed specifically for the DOHC 2.5RS and cross-reference with PFR5B-11. Excellent copper plugs, about $1.49 each mail order.

I ordered mine from www.importpartsspec.com. BTW, they also carry Nippon (the old Subaru OEM, pre-Purolator) air and oil filters. They have a screwy online catalog and sent me the wrong stuff. I called and they sent me the right stuff, no problem. So I would recommend you call them and ask for specific parts (i.e., make clear you want Nippon, not the other brand) and use the online catalog only as a guide.
