Default AutoX Street Legal Tires

I am in the STU category and I am looking high gripping street tires based on performance/price. Obviously, not Bridgestone, Michelin or Pirelli as they are too expensive...

I came out with a few tires (235/40/18) options:

Kumho MX $133 from TireRack
Falken Azenis RT-615 $137 from Vulcun Tire

So as you can see, the budget should be around $130-140 range. I am not looking into those competition tires as they often need shaving and are expensive.

So any other tires recommendation?

- Charles

The Hankook RS-2 Z212 is a well-reviewed AutoX street tire, and are the cheapest of the bunch, I believe. The 615, MX, and RS-2 are pretty much the top contenders for cheap, good, AutoX ST-class tires.

If you go to an event, you will see that almost everybody is running the RT 615....save money by buying the tires to fit on your stock wheels instead, the 17s should be cheaper. (and the stock wheels will probably give you better performance over some heavier 18s)

Just to add, if you buy Azenis and do a decent amount of autox's plan on them only lasting 1 year. I ran Azenis this year, did about 8 event and 2 test and tunes and the the Azenis were dead after 7-8k miles. So basically I got 8k miles for $450. This year I'm spending a little bit more and getting Eagle F1's instead because I know for a fact they will last 2 years, and won't scare me in the rain...

You could say I'm sacrificing grip for longevity but I fully believe that I need to become a better driver before my tires fully determine my performance at autox....
