Unhappy Dealer pulling my leg??

I brought in my car for service because it was running poorly.. My idle shot up to 4000 rpm (CEL flashing) ..then is now fluctuating between 1400 to 2000 rpm in netral (rs is a 5spd manual). The dealer said I need a new throttle body/assembly and is gonna cost $600 plus $200 to install @$90/hour labor. Why would I need a new throttle body?? HHmmmm.. This particular dealer is Salerno-Duane Subaru in Jersey City, New Jersey.. Anyone have an idea??

Unless you have a leak in one of the seals, or damage to it......you don't need the whole thing. It's possible your IAC valve may not be working, or may need to be cleaned, but that can be replaced separately, if not cleaned up.

BTW, I can change the TB in my car in like 15-20 min. On your car, shouldn't take over an hour at the most.

I'd go to autozone, have them pull codes, it will probably be for the idle air control valve. Clean that puppy up, and reset the ECU.
