Post Detroit Auto Show and rally cars

I was there yesterday and I don't think I heard anyone talking about this so... Did anyone check out the new Impreza rally car there? One thing that annoyed me was that I was right up against it and the stupid security guy would keep bugging me if I even just pointed at it from like 5 inches away. Talk about being anal. It got to the point that I just kept pointing at it but I saw him from the corner of my eyes and I knew he wanted to "reprimand" me but couldn't since I wasn't faced towards him.

Also did anyone see Tommi Makinen's supposed Mitsubishi rally car? It was a right hand drive and had all the interior stuff, including the rear seats, still intact. It was still cool to see.

Are there rear brakes on that? I can see the fronts, but not the rears. Last year the WRC car mock up they brought didn't have any!

yeah.. it had rear brakes..

The Subaru WRC car was a full out WRC car.. just not used..

the Tommy Evo.. was a weak effort.
the brakes were stock and looked out of place to say the least.

was neat to see an evo though..

According to Mike Whelan, the Impreza WRC on display was recently finished by Prodrive. FWIW...

I liked the rear seat treatment in the EVO. hehe

last years suby WRC in chicago had no motor, no rear brakes, no tranny, pretty much just suspension. lol Weak weak effort, looked like they took a RS shell, painted it WRC style and put on a rally suspension and roll cage and called it a day.

i hope this years effort here is a lot better.

The Subaru WRC car is a prototype ! will probably never be used in competition ! The Lancer is just a mock up, probably a standard EVO6 dressed up like the real thing !

They may not be "real" rally cars, but its alot better than not having anything to look at. I skipped this years DC autoshow 'cause all Subaru brought was SCC's 2.5Rs (same display as last year). I would just like to see the 2001 WRC body in person, and seeing even a mock-up Evo wouldn't be too bad either! C

With the last post, would have been nice to even have a "fakie" @ LA.

Re; LA Show. FYI, there were two (2) west coast real rally Subies on the floor. The drivers and co drivers and some crew were available for perhaps 90% of the 9 day show to chat with and bench race. (Paul Eklund and Lee Shadbolt)

I hate mock-ups.
Just like 98Impresive mentioned, the WRC car at the Chicago auto show didn't have the engine, but it did have the axles zip tied to the frame so it wouldn't drag. hehe.

The Ford Focus that I saw at the London Motor Show didn't even have an appropriate interior. I thought it had tinted windows until I walked up to it and the windows were painted black!!! Weak...

The Impreza WRC looked to be just a prototype car but a full car not a mockup

The Lancer EVO was a Grp. N RHD rally car painted in TOMMI's livery. That too was a real car and not a mockup.

I have pics of both that I'll post when I scan them in.

The EVO was Group N, not Group A.

the Mitshu. was not the rally car, but the WRX they had wad a test car on rally tracks, i talked to the people there that was running the set and they said the WRX was used in a practice session before a rally. It is thier show car but it has been used. If you look at the P-Zeros, they are dirty!!!
