Thumbs down Summary of ALL '02 bs pictures

This is my firm belief..

1.) US is NOT getting that "Dodge Neon" infested "WRX" Instead Japan will be getting that model
2.) US will be getting the 6 cylinder Outback for the "Outback Series"
3.) US will be getting "European Impreza" (2-door couple) 220hp 2.0L Turbo w/ wing (very similar to Ryan Plum's factory left-hand drive turbo drive)
4.) US will be getting the "2.5RS" in *4 DOOR ONLY* Not coming in 2 door anymore.

Anyone who believes otherwise is on some kind of russian heroine...

I agree in that we will probably get a turbo as a current body style. Many magazines have been saying we will get a Turbo coupe, like Road and track.

STi Sev, you must know something the rest of us don't. Please make my day and tell me this is a a bad dream, a hoax by Subaru to set us up for the real release in August.

I would find it hard to believe that Subaru would release two body styles - one for Japan and one for the rest of us. I hope it's true. Has Subaru ever done this is the past?

The one and only picture I believe is the silver one from Automobile or Road and Track or whoever. And even in that I have apprehensions.

Otherwise...I've seen nothing that convinces me. Including the Acura CL disguised as a Neon which someone called the WRX.

I'm probably wrong, but aren't we driving around in a 2-3 year old European body style??? If so, then maybe there is still hope...

If Subaru is trying to build a company and still look after the bottom line do you really think they would pay the costs of a second assembly line in Japan to build a second body style for the US? There is only going to be one body style. There will only be a 4dr. That's the only way for Subaru to keep costs low. The spy pics are almost always either accurate or very close to it. The other pics people had were just that artists renditions and not actual pics. These were pics. So I think there is partial truth to them.

Yip, I am going to hafta disagree with Sev on this one.
I still have a glimmer of hope that those pics are doctored somewhat.

Seeing that this pic is actually a real photo, this could A) Be a big ass scam, by some Euro car magazine. Or B) The car thats actually coming here. If it was the greatest looking Impreza yet, do you think we'd see all these BS flags? I doubt it.

Ok In my FIRM belief, the closest respresentation is in August Road and Track.

They nailed the pictures reeeeeeeeal close, but really ****ed up on the specs (4.6 0-60 13.7 from 215 hp? I don't think so)

Think about it, why would Subaru release some ugly bodystyle when they 'know' 2000 impreza owners love the current one

hehe, the same reason GM screwed up the Montey, or Ford raped the Cougar (even tho the new one looks good, the old Cougar was RWD), or Chevy screwed up the Camaro (I HATE the front end), or even better, the same reason Mitsubishi destroyed the Eclipse. Oops, forgot one. How about what Toyota did to the Celica?

It's all about $$, they do some research, and some people say they like this new X style better than the good ole style from before. So the companies build them, people bitch about it (like what's going on here), older drivers, or new drivers buy the car because it looks "cool" and they don't know how the origional looked, then the people who were bitching give up and buy the car, and the old style is a memory.

Here's my take, the side of the car is real. The hood is off of a Pleo, with a scoop added. The headlights are also, with a turn signal put in, and the lights angled slightly. The rear talelights were tossed in, and it looks like they did a bad job.

It's prolly a hacked car left around to stir up trouble.

Here is what I think:

Sev is mostly right. I don't believe any of the pics are the cars we will be seeing. Look what SOA has over here to test out the cars. What do you think they have over in the main headquarters in Japan? There is no reason for them to have the car out on the road driving it around. They have been building cars for a long time and I'm sure they can account for anything you'll see on the road in their test facility.
