Post Any advantages with Rear Strut tower bar and Lower rear bar?

now is there any advantages to having both the Rear Strut Tower Bar and Lower Rear Bar installed on stock suspension? (also maybe with a 18-20mm rear sway bar later)

The rear upper strut tower bar combined with a larger sway bar, in my experience, makes the rear of the car more predictable.

For example: With just a larger rear bar if you are in a hard corner and have to hit the brakes, the rear of the car tends to break free very quickly. In the same situation with a larger rear bar & the upper strut bar you can "feel" when you are approaching the point of "breaking free" and make the needed corrections before you spin.

As for the lower "tie" bar, I have mine on order and do not know for sure what benefits it may provide. I will review its benefits and/or limitations as soon as it gets installed.

The strut tower bars would be the last things I'd worry about until you've already done everything else (good tires, shocks, springs and swaybars). Even then I don't think they do anything but thats up for debate.

I agree, too many people do mods in the reverse order.

All these strut tower bars and trinkets and tidbits are wasted until you get rid of the stock tires and suspension. (and by suspension I DONT mean sway bar) Stock tires dont stress the suspension enuf to stress the chassis to notice ANY benefit from strut tower bars..

The actual loads on the chassis aren't even significant until that point.

i agree w/the general consensus here...


then worry about the little bits.. the strut bars may in fact be a tad more than eye candy... you have to drive the car REALLY hard in order to test them tho...


not that i'd know...

Easy now...I just offered my opinion as to the benefits of the rear tower bar and the lower stress bar. I didn't say that the rear tower bar would make the car handle any better by itself!

I totally agree that handling upgrades need to be done in a sensible order to be effective.
1. Tires will probably make the most difference initially, but I couldn't justify throwing away brand new tires (no matter how horrible) until they are worn out. When they are (should be very soon) I will upgrade those.
2. Larger rear bar - if you don't know how effective an improvement this is, search the posts.
3. Suspension (Struts & Springs) - When matched correctly will make a huge difference to your car.
4. Strut tower bars - The front is 90% eye candy and 10% useful due to proximity of the strut towers to the firewall. The rear is 90% useful & 10% eye candy, it compliments the larger rear sway bar very, very well.
5. Lower tie bar - ? who knows, no one has tried it yet.
6. Anti-lift kit & solid end links.


Trust me, if I was modifying my car strictly for "looks", I would not have spent my money on handling improvements but on wings, carbon fiber kits, and coffee can exhausts.

The sturt tower bars are a nice completion to the suspesion. First do your sway bar, springs, and struts. Then your bushings. Lastly the add the strut tower bars. I am waiting for my lower tie bar too.. But it is just a final touch. ..

With suspesnion mods you can feel the differnce with the Strut tower bars. But it as small. The rear one keeps the rear end more predictable and reduced wheel hop in a hard turn in. The front well, it just keeps the suspesion inline.
